  • Finished handspun shawl. This ended up being washed/blocked multiple times because unknown to me one of the black welsh skeins still had dirt in it, which distributed dirt throughout the shawl when initially washed. There’s still some light staining in parts of the marled yarn, but it’s much much better than before.

  • I’ve been making doll knitwear for my critter friends from my handspuns! The bobble textured & grey shawls are actually a headscarf pattern – the buttons on the edges allow them to also be worn as a headscarf/neckerchief by a human. The green infinity scarf I just free-handed. 🐐 Rupert 🐰 Freyja 🐴 Idris Dolls…

  • Shawl is now finished and being blocked. Looking at it all finished I realised my yarn choices have accidentally recreated old tv static blips in shawl form 🤣

  • Oof, doing the black lace section was a trial! My tension is clearly tighter than the pattern makers which cause the lace to be slightly firmer than the rest of the texture sections, which likely means it won’t block out as wide as the pattern image. To compensate I did 2 more repeats of the…

  • Wow, this got large quickly! I’m up to the 2nd last segment & it’s looking so awesome that I’m considering this will be my handspun article entry for next years Royal (maybe).

  • Started up a shawl using the black welsh & white scandi handspun yarns from last year. Again, I’m having to teach myself a bunch of new knitting stitches.

  • Completed chunky lace shawl & a companion chunky hat using fisherman rib.

  • Before weaving ends in & during blocking. The pattern said to ‘block severely’, so I did; with great prejudice mind you because blocking took 2 hours & almost stole my sanity attempting to get the scalloped edge right because I was not helped by my stiff cast on.

  • There is sooo much concentration happening as I learn how to do wrap & turn short rows. You can see already how the short rows are forcing the piece into more of a triangle shape; the pumpkin marker is the middle where the short rows started.

  • Picked a ‘simple’ shawl pattern using chunky yarn to practice making a shawl before I try with my handspun. Only, this pattern isn’t simple at all! I’ve finished the lace edge, but now I have to teach myself short rows to finish the piece. The white yarn are lifelines I wove in at points where…
