Attaching the lumbar belt involved layering the endcap, sewing down the top webbing to the endcap, sewing the belt to the endcap, then handsewing the bottom webbing to the top webbing internally. A test fit revealed the tail is sitting too high and the belt stitching is too wide causing pulling where my body curves.…

I went a bit crazy on webbing reinforcing as I really don’t want the tail sleeve to pull/rip/warp when I attach to the lumbar belt. With all this reinforcement on the weight-bearing seams and pieces, I am confident most sources of failure will be mitigated.
-
Down to the final segments. These are reinforced with interfacing on the top, sides, and collars which are the weight-bearing surfaces and will have webbing sewn down them to support belt attachment. Thinking of going back to put interfacing on the tops of segments 4 and 5 as well so that I can extend that…

Homeward stretch of the bonetail. The last 2 sections have to be completed separately as I need to reinforce them in the machine before connecting to the main sleeve. Here you can see the side seam to close, and pins marking a shaping dart to be sew into each spine.

Progress on Miwak’s bone tail. I have the first 3 segments mostly sewn up before running out of thread, so waiting on more supply now. And a test fit for segment 3 where you can see the open seam that will allow me to wrap the whole tail in the sleeve before puppet stitching it…

It is becoming increasingly apparent that this is not a tail I ever wish to remake. First pic is the pieces for the first 2 segments, took about 2 hours to extract. Finally, 3 days and multiple cuttings sessions later, I present the rolls of pattern. 😵💫
-
This has taken literal days to pattern and patterning isn’t completely finished yet! It’s the most complex thing I’ve made to date.
-
Finished the core of Miwak’s tail. It has a pool noodle running through the middle, the elastic provides stability lengthwise and around the segment connections. Belt attachment is going to be a challenge as it’s designed to sit on the butt.
-
Several days work later and I have this absolute unit of a tail. Need to smooth out the sculpt before patterning & sewing each individual segment, before it’s connected into a single unit.

I will be dropping this lot, plus 3 slots for custom paws, into my Etsy shop on Friday 6 August 12pm AEST. There will also be an opportunity to commission a set of custom hand paws (3 slots only this time).
