Fibre washing day 2 was a roaring success. This time with parrot supervision (he knows “hot” and “careful” means don’t go near things). White is Leicester from two different farms, black/grey is merinoXleicester.

First lot of scouring completed! This is 2 Leicester fleeces; one from NSW and one from Victoria. Also had some space in the bags to do some of the dark LeicesterXMerino fleece. It’s shocking how filthy sheep is & the transformation from yellow/grey to white is astounding! I’m going to have to somehow clean the…

I am planning to do something I said I wouldn’t do … wash some fleeces! These are both local wool from Scotts Creek Farm in NSW. The white/blue-grey locks are traditional Leicester breed. The beautiful blue-black fleece with brown tipping is a Leicester cross (possibly a merino). The bag smells very sheepy.

Finished red dorset horn waste wool, that was used for packing & I combed. It’s ended up a really lovely tweedy yarn 🧶

TDF progress update! I have finished the fractal yarn, all the bobbins have now been plied, the brown icelandic single is finished, & the cotton is progressing. I also prepped 200g grams of ‘berry burst’ roving into rolags because I impulsively decided I needed a lofty woolen spin for the planned chunky yarn.

I decided to be slightly more relaxed for TDF this year. My goals are to spin up the wools shown, as well as some egyptian cotton I prepped into rolags, – if everything is singles at the end I’m cool with that. I’m also doing a chill bingo from one of my discord fibre groups…

I finished up the red dorset, managed to get a decent yield with the only waste being big matts/nepps. I’m planning to spin this on my new Allen Berry spindle to ‘break it in’.

For TDF I’m prepping some egyptian cotton I got when I first started spinning. I’ve never spun cotton before but my first impressions are … I seriously don’t like the smell, it smells super weird in a bad funky kind of way even though it’s clean. I don’t think I’m a cotton person simply because…

Using my brand new combs on some lovely red dorset horn wool that was used as packing material. DISCLAIMER!! Never use or leave wool combs out where pets or children could accidentally be harmed! Maui has grown up around me using dangerous crafting tools so knows all the required safety commands/when to not go near…

Finally cleared off my craft desk of full spindles, and holy heck! I am doomed to some serious plying hell because I filled up a lot of spindles…and this isn’t even all the spindles I own now…
