‘Spirit of the North’ cosplay mask progress & movement test. I chose to invert the screw setup on the forehead rest/head harness to allow the hardware to be swapped out if they ever break. This is going to be put aside now until I clear some things in my queue.

Non-zero progress on Miwak’s skull hat! I reinforced all the joins with worbla strips, then sanded down with the dremel/by hand. The friction heat from sanding was an advantage for blending the seam lines together somewhat. I used the last of my foam clay to start sculpting out the details which will later be covered…

After some frustration locating worbla (had to buy from 2 different places), I now have all the pieces traced and the foam cut. As worbla allows form shaping I combined some pieces, and the foam is cut slightly smaller to allow for the worbla sandwich seams so the whole thing stays the required size.

I am grateful my partner indulges my bullshit; they helped me create a digital 2-way banyan pattern. This is gonna make a baptista AND an OFMD style banyan. If the test sews work then I’ll finalise the pattern for public release.

I spent a couple of delightful hours dremeling. Miwak’s eye ports needed smoothing, a half snarl mask needed prepping, and I started prep work for the next cosplay (spirit of the north fox).

Finished another premade paws using my new 5-finger pattern. These are super comfy for small hands.

This is a much better pattern! Look at that range of movement, so many wiggles. A few minor tweaks still, but none that will stop me ordering fur now!

FINISHED THE FEETSIES! The main toes are hot glued onto the shoes; you need to glue down each toe seperately starting with the middle toe so that everything is even and conforms to the shape of the shoe. The hallaces I threaded 3 bits of craft wire through all layers of foam/glue/fabric strips (using a…

Sealed the feet in plastidip before painting with a mid gray base layer and a black top layer, wiping off excess paint as I went to get that mottled skin look. I’m sealing the paintwork using some flexible clear gloss art spray which’s going to take a week to dry between layer.

More work on the feetsies. Skin details are done using puffy paint; this is glow in the dark which dries clear as you can see from the sections I did first. The bottle says dries in 24 hours, but some of these blobs are super thick and I’m guessing will need at least a week…
