Decided to blend some grey BFL tops from my stash with the black Faroe Island sample tops from one of last years monthly fibre club. The difference in staple length is INSANE! The faroe is easily twice the length if not longer than the BFL. But it’s making such a lovely blended charcoal colour.

So many hours it took me to complete the newly invented double knit twisted rib bind off on this cowl! The bind off was developed for me by a member of one of my fibre communities and they did such a fantastic job as it is stretchy and completely matches the invisible cast on. I put it over a pool noodle raft to block so it will dry nice & smooth all the way around.
I’ve had this wood for 3 years with the intent to make hexagon display shelves. My partner obviously was roped in to be the power for the saw 😂
I added in the dark navy textural fur similarly to how you’d add trim to garments. I really like how this defines the colour segments. I may have also accidentally made a fancy-ish end cap…
I’m planning to do a sandwich of some black fur between the dark to light transitions on the top of the tail, just to add some extra texture, which meant I had to change the construction order to allow for those strips to easily be put in.
I also like how this change to normal sewing order shows how you can create curved shapes from sewing a whole bunch of straight line seams.
An entirely new bind off had to be developed for double knit twisted rib. I am so very grateful to a particular member of my fibre community would spent ages figuring out this bind off for me. It’s kinda evil (but not as evil as a previous iteration) and achieves the same stretchyness & look as the invisible cast on. I’m gonna have to be careful with my tension when sewing the edge together because too tight tension on the purls causes the back fabric to pop through the front as tiny dots.
Later this week I’m going to do this tedious process again on the dino cowl.
Moffman is painted! I did a very dark base coat, then dry brushed 3 slightly different metallic colour blends (charcoal, dark teal, deep violet) selectively over the entire mask. Finished off with bright copper eye ports which should make the glow eyes I have planned sing. I’m also planning to install some ball joints under the large feather tufts for poseable stiff felt ears.
Spent most of a morning cutting out all these many pieces for the bee inspired tail. This giant puff nub goes with the paws I was making earlier.
Got all the pads sewn in, lined, & stuffed. I’ve stuffed all the claws but I really want to just attached the ones on the middle fingers to be super reminiscent of bee claws…but I know doing that means it won’t sell well 😔
