Put the finishing touches on the commission pyo. Using model foliage on a sculpt was new for me, but I’m so pleased with how selective foliage placement has made this 💯 more awesome!
Here’s all my parts for the fursuit collab I’m doing with @urboros! These parts are for the green fantasy bird skull mask they are making and feature a wired feather fan in the tail, hidden tail belt loop, and conductive thread fingertips (so you can use your phone in suit!).
We’re aiming for the full partial with the mask, made by @urboros to be available at Anthrocon, which is coming up soon!
For the rest of the build, please go check out @urboros’s account, where there are already some wips of the skull mask.
For TDF I’m prepping some egyptian cotton I got when I first started spinning. I’ve never spun cotton before but my first impressions are … I seriously don’t like the smell, it smells super weird in a bad funky kind of way even though it’s clean. I don’t think I’m a cotton person simply because of this.
This was an interesting exercise. Both skeins are 100% yak with singles spindle spun supported at the same time. BUT left one was plyed end of last year using my usual method matching the ply twist to the singles twist on my plying drop. Meanwhile the right one was plyed recently on the drop except singles were released slower which allowed way more ply twist to build up – I think this resulted in a much nicer & plush yarn for this fibre.
So, since yak is uber expensive I decided to unply/re-ply the left skein & it turned out really nice!
Also, wow! Different weather lighting really drastically changes hiw the colour shows up huh?
Using my brand new combs on some lovely red dorset horn wool that was used as packing material.
DISCLAIMER!! Never use or leave wool combs out where pets or children could accidentally be harmed! Maui has grown up around me using dangerous crafting tools so knows all the required safety commands/when to not go near something AND I was monitoring him the entire time whilst I was combing because parrots (like small children) sometimes can’t help themselves.
And the collab gloves are done! I’d forgotten how finneky these stretch gloves are to construct but the effort is definately worth it. And yes, these do have conductive thread in 3 of the fingers so you can use your phone.
Wow, this got large quickly! I’m up to the 2nd last segment & it’s looking so awesome that I’m considering this will be my handspun article entry for next years Royal (maybe).
I actually don’t dye any fibre, so I unfortunately can’t comment in this. All the fibreI use is either natural, commercially dyed roving, or hand dyed by other dyers.
I love how with some antiquing and details, windstone sculpts suddenly pop to life! I’m calling the painting done on this now. I’m planning to selectively gloss parts of the dragon to bring out the metallic colours & see if adding some model foliage to the rock will make this more awesome.
