Finally finished the impromptu b&w yarn project.
This started out as just learning support spindling with random fibre & turned into a mission for pretty yarns.
Skeins are 4ply worsted weight stricken white scandi, black welsh, & ‘Licorice’ (striken white scandi/black welsh) wool. These yarns are destined to become a knit triangle shawl.
Decided to start with the knitting needle cosies. I did one vanilla off the pattern, then I started to experiment by adding elastic retaining straps & adding in extra pockets.
I’m trying to do a little stash busting & managed to spend 2 days cutting.
Left side we have large & small octogon bags, right top are quilted cylinder bags, bottom right are knitting dpn cosies, middle is a large book pocket, oven mit, & a tiny vest.
Conclusion of my Tour de Fleece 2023 journey. Over the 3 week period (mens race) I spun & plied a skein each of black welsh & white scandi. I finished the last single of my competition yarn & plied that. I completely finished all singles for 2 skeins of blue merino/alpaca. I filled my tahkli with several random sample floofs for a frankenyarn mini skein. I spun my first ever corridale (green) & almost finished spinning the 2oz. Lastly, I got started on the last single of my Valhalla yarn spin.
I know this doesn’t look like much compared to what wheel spinners can chug out during the Tour, but for a hand spindler this is a herculean amount of yarn. Plus I’ve learnt a few things from only doing spinning craft for 3 weeks; I am a much faster spinner than I think I am, my consistency has greatly improved since I started spinning at christmas, I prefer my supports weighter but my drops lighter, & I absolutely hate the feel of corridale so I’m likely to never spin it again.
Completed measuring and skeining all the spins from the last few months. There are hundreds of yards/meters of yarn here. My absolute favourite is merino/alpaca/camel/silk blend as it’s like touching a cloud.
Progress on my double knit fossil cowl. This is honestly going to take forever as I can only comfortably do 2-3 rounds at a time, but realistically I am actually knitting 2 pieces of fabric at once! This is the bottom ribbing and the first few rows of the colourwork. Stay tuned!
Completed project bags! These came out super cute & I’m planning to make the other sizes using the shramp fabric so I have an adorable set.
Finally completed Miwaks skull hat! My aim was to make it as light as possible, & given the materials used I think that 0.5g is pretty darn good!
Just have to do a few last edits on the head and suit, & then the big reveal!
Plying, washing, & skeining all this has taken weeks! But honestly, these are some of the prettiest yarns I’ve made so far. I still have to ball/re-skein to measure lengths yet though, but that can wait for a bit.
3 days of work and everything has been pulled off the spindles & prepped for plying. The yellow is still a singles ball as that’s my Easter Show competition spin waiting for the red alpaca to finish resting.
